Ignacio Peralta-Agramonte, 50, of Leesport, will serve up to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to Third-Degree Murder on Thursday, Oct. 10, according to the Berks County District Attorney's Office.
Peralta-Agramonte encountered his estranged wife, Librad Reyes De Peralta, at the intersection of Route 61 and Snyder Road in Ontelaunee Township on Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, the district attorney's office said. That's when he shot her.
A Northern Berks Regional police officer was called to the intersection after passing drivers reported witnessing the shooting, according to prior Daily Voice coverage of the incident.
The officer found Reyes De Peralta, 44, unresponsive with a single gunshot wound to the head along with two shell casings and a "work identification card" bearing Peralta-Agramonte's name nearby, authorities said at the time.
At the scene, witnesses told the officer they saw a man later identified as Peralta-Agramonte shoot Reyes De Peralta directly in the head, and then shoot her again "execution style" after she fell to the ground, the criminal complaint said.
Reading and Northern Berks police arrived on scene and quickly found Peralta-Agramonte. A knife was also discovered in the cupholder of his Toyota Venza.
Police claimed Peralta-Agramonte said, "I did it, I'm sorry," multiple times during his arrest, according to the documents.
He was taken to the Berks County Detectives Office where he allegedly told officers, "I made a mistake, I took her life."
Reyes De Peralta was taken to Reading Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead just after 7 a.m., police said. A preliminary examination ruled her cause of death "multiple gunshot and stab wounds." She was survived by two daughters.
Peralta-Agramonte pleaded guilty to Third-Degree Murder and Possessing Instruments of Crime, the district attorney's office said.
A First-Degree Murder charge was dismissed along with charges of Aggravated Assault and Recklessly Endangering Another Person, according to court documents.
